Flashback Friday!

Have you ever saw something on Facebook or the internet and just immediately reminded you of the music you used to listen to when you were a young rebellious teen, sneaking out, and not listening to your parents when they ground you for talking back. Is that just me? No, it wasn't me, I wasn't very rebellious actually. I never snuck out either. I only talked back a few times. I actually tried to be the good child without being a kissass...but that's not the point of this article!

I ended up on YouTube search up one of the bands that I used to listen to when I was a teenager. Anyone remember the pop-punk band Good Charlotte?!

Their album 'Young and The Hopeless' was frickin' amazing! I was listening to "Boys & Girls" and immediately, I'm back at my old house in Vegas, in my room, listening to this album on my green carpet floor. Yes, it was green. I know.

Then next up to play was "Lifestyles of The Rich and The Famous". Oh my god this song... I would sing this song all the time in my Science class in school. I had a few friends that I would listen to Good Charlotte with and we would talk about how hot Billy and Joel Madden were. We were those teenage girls haha.

Anyways, I ended up listening to this song 4 times.
I hope you end up reminiscing and rocking out as much as I did!
My cat is judging me as I rock out on my laptop...

CURRENT SONGS THAT WILL NOT LEAVE MY HEAD

Unfortunately right now, it's not a new artist/band that I have stuck in my head. I have random choruses and verses from The Menzingers album, 'Rented World'. If you have not read my album review about them, DO IT RIGHT NOW. It's pretty good I tell ya! They are a good punk rock band with some indie vibes, mostly the vocals, to me at least. I'll be in the middle of work and all of the sudden the chorus from the track "Nothing Feels Good Anymore" will pop into my head...

"I'm at the party in a cloud of nicotine,
exhaled by drunk twenty somethings,
there's a couple arguing in the bathroom,
there's a couple kids just trying to get high,
I try to make my way out, 'cause I've got to see you
tonight, I start pacing then running."

Then it will be playing over and over before it fades away for a minute. Then hours later, another verse comes into my head from a different track from the album, "Where Your Heartache Exists" (which is one of my favorite songs on the album by the way)....

"I know where your heartache exists,
it's when you are alone and when you're around me."

Imagine that in your head over and over. It drives me crazy, not in the annoying way, but in the way that I HAVE to listen to that song immediately when I'm able. Like for instance, right this very moment. Haha. I'm sitting in the cafe at my work listening to this album because it's been there playing over and over. Now, I'm not saying this because it's a bad thing, it's a good thing. Maybe I'll learn the lyrics faster this way, haha.

If you haven't checked them out yet, please listen to their stuff, it's worth the listen.

This is my jam right now...

I've been really into the Gorillaz lately. The beats are so dance-able and funky, from their self titled album, all the way to 'The Fall'.  I never realized it before, but the Gorillaz are pretty rad. I never really just sat and listened to the melodies and the instruments of the music that is the Gorillaz. I know, I'm extremely late, but it's better to be late than never, right? It was one of those times where you just scroll through your iTunes, and decide to play a track and next thing you know, your listening to all of their albums. Does anyone else do that? Just me? Oh, okay...

Currently jamming out to the track, "Dirty Harry", from the album, 'Demon Days' by the fabulous Gorillaz.

JAM OUT I TELL YA! IT'S WORTH THE DANCE!

LOOK WHO I FOUND!!

It's the French Cassettes!

I found these guys on Bandcamp on the popular page. Good news to me, they're local! This Sf based band is pretty rad. They remind me of the band Phoenix, not entirely, but you get my point. Their music is very catchy and light. They're also very easy to like, for example, usually on new bands that I listen to I have to listen to a few songs before I decide if I like them or not. Obviously, this wasn't the case. French Cassettes are dance-able and fun. Check these guys out seriously!!

I just discovered this band thanks to one of my friends, Rory. It's always amazing to have people around you that have love for music and show you new artists/bands that you've never heard of. Thanks dude!

So this band is The Menzingers, and have a new album titled 'Rented World' that was released in late April. I must say it's pretty freaking good! I really like Greg Barnett's vocals. The way he flows his lyrics (or yells them) into the songs makes them really catchy. He has a pretty good voice especially in the tracks, "When Your Heartache Exists"" and "Transient Love". The guitar riffs done in the songs are really catchy, and the punk drum beats done by Joe Godino are pretty sweet as well.  They're really good at their breakdowns in the middle of the songs too, like, "Sentimental Physics" and "The Talk", which is a good punk song as well. While listening to this album, I noticed that their main genre would probably be pop punk, but they have a few different genres in a couple songs on the album. Two tracks got me off guard, "Transient Love", it has a super indie vibe. Then the last track on the album, "When You Died". It's a slow acoustic song with some deep lyrics. I really like my new discovery. They are a good rocking out band, I was nodding my head to the beat periodically throughout the album. When can I see these guys live?
